Your puzzle selections and completed routes are stored in this browser. They stay on this device until you clear them. Progress does not sync across devices.

When online saving is available, we set an anonymous session cookie for up to 30 days. It connects your attempts, validated routes, challenge links and feedback to the same browser. We do not ask for your name or email, and do not sell this information.

Portrait images are loaded from Wikimedia servers when available. That request may include ordinary connection metadata such as your IP address; see the photo credits for the source files and licenses.

We periodically remove play records and feedback after 90 days, optional events after 30 days, and challenges 30 days after their expiry. Cleanup runs in batches and may lag during unusually high traffic. Challenge links expire after 30 days. Cloudflare provides hosting and processes connection information to serve and protect the site; we do not store IP addresses in our game database.

Optional play insights

You can help us understand which clues and sharing features are useful. This sends a small set of anonymous interaction events. It is off by default and is separate from the records needed for online saving.

Delete your data

Delete online & local data removes the records associated with your current session and your progress in this browser. An internet connection is needed. If the online request fails, we keep the session so you can retry.

If you have already lost or cleared the session cookie, we cannot identify older online records from this browser. Those records follow the retention policy above.
